Family Friendly Planting Event Works to End Hunger
STERLING, Va. – Kicking off the growing season, the JK Community Farm is hosting its 3rd annual Plant-A-Thon with volunteer teams from companies, civic groups as well as individuals planting 16,000 seedlings in support of ending hunger. This weekend’s efforts alone will result in over 53,000 healthy, organic meals for families in need. With a theme of “Help Something Wonderful Take Root,” the family friendly event also features food trucks, music and vendors on site for a fun filled day of giving back. The nonprofit farm provides chemical free, healthy produce and protein to those struggling with food insecurity in the region. The farm donates the food it grows to nonprofit partners, including Loudoun Hunger Relief, Food for Others and Arlington Food Assistance Center. The event will raise close to $45,000 to support the nonprofit farm’s work.
