Bee Hotel – Pollinator populations are changing

January 19, 2021 As many of you know, we have seven beautiful, colorful honeybee hives at the JK Community Farm. Our beekeeper, George with the Beekeepers Farm, LLC often uses the bees from our hives to help grow the honeybee population in Loudoun County. We started to think about what else we can be doing to support our local pollinators, as they do so much for the food that we [...]

Farm Expansion – 2021 new year, new goals

January 5, 2021 In 2018, the JK Community Farm was founded. In our first year, we grew on 4 acres producing about 30,000 lbs of produce, and 20,000 lbs of protein (beef, pork, and venison). When we were first getting started, everything was a mystery…will volunteers show up? Will anyone care about our mission? Will our deer fencing work? Where are we going to start our seeds? Our first food pantry partner [...]

How do we keep our soil healthy?

November 6, 2019 Members of our community continue to let us know how grateful they are that our 150 acre community farm is not a housing development…so are we! But more important to us is that the land is enrolled in a conservation program and we are taking care of our soil.
